Bernie Lezotte and I will be bringing our acoustic power duo to California, Arizona and Colorado in the late summer for a “Three States/Three Dates” mini-tour. We are super-excited as these gigs are always a lot of fun. Bernie will be playing guitar, harmonica and percussion, and I’ll be swapping between guitar and bass as we take turns singing songs we’ve written, and some of our old favorites.
We’ll be playing some pretty great rooms; I’m really looking forward to playing in Orange County for the first time in nearly 20 years! The Boathouse Collective in Newport-Mesa is a truly unique venue that hosts live music and art, and is a culinary and cocktail hot- Continue reading
Most of you know that I bailed out of the live rock and roll scene around 2007. I’ve always said that if the songs were good enough, I might do the band thing again. That said, 2017 marks my prominent return to live performing. I’ll be performing on guitars, bass and drums with as many national acts as my schedule permits. Toss in the occasional solo gig, or acoustic duo and I’m one busy cat.
Well, where has 2016 gone! Long time, no update! Are websites even a thing anymore, with social media and all? Anyhow, it’s been crazy since I updated in late January with news of the re-release of my single, Run Away, featuring Nicole Laurenne of The Love Me Nots. The track is still doing really well and if you haven’t downloaded yet, please do so now!!!
In February, to celebrate the birthday of one of my favorite guitarist, Poison Ivy of The Cramps, I released a cover of their song, I’m Customized from their 1987 record, Flamejob; my favorite Continue reading
Hey All! I recently re-released a new version of my single from last year, Run Away. The new version has a killer vocal performance by Nicole Laurenne of the Love Me Nots with a new mix by Michael Johnny Walker, also of the Love Me Nots and mastering by Jason Baldock. Please check it out and download it here!!!!!
Well it’s been nearly a year since I last updated the news here, and it’s been quite a busy one at that! 2015 began with some major upgrades in my studio which has dealt quite the learning curve. That said, the learning curve can stifle the creativity a bit, but I am on the back end of that now and will be cranking out much new music in 2016, count on it! I did manage to drop one new single in September, called Run Away. The track features yours truly on electric and acoustic guitars, bass, drums and vocals with a guest appearance by my pal Nick Torri on lead guitar. Nick absolutely tears it up and delivers the goods with his Gibson 335 on this one. Check it out and download it here.
2015 also saw the end of my relationship with Pump Audio/Getty Images Music. After nearly 8 years, Continue reading
Well the weather in Arizona has finally come down to human conditions. That means three things: motorcycles, music and happy hour on the patio. My guitar tech and good friend Bernie Lezotte and I will be holding down a couple bar stools and knocking off some tunes on the rooftop at The Perch in downtown Chandler Friday, November 21st and Friday the 28th.
So with the gorgeous Arizona weather upon us, come out and enjoy some acoustic patio music, delicious food, craft beers, friends, family and good times! On the roof, no less! And the 28th? It’s the Friday after Thanksgiving, who the heck wants to cook?! Some will spend the day shopping like lunatics, some will be nursing Thanksgiving day hangovers of both the food and alcohol variety, and others will have family in town. Whatever. All of the above should close the evening out with Bernie and me. Have a bite, a pint and a smile. Both nights will feature Bernie and I trading off vocals on dozens of classic rock and country gems.
Hey cats and dolls! Summer is on the horizon and that means it’s time to get out of Phoenix hell and hit the beach! Huntington Beach, Orange County, California that is! As if there is any other beach, right? Anyhow, I thought it’d be super cool to design some great Johnny Zapp Orange County shirts for the ladies and gents, and give away the “Orange County” single as a free download with every shirt purchase! What do you think?
My song “Orange County” of course pays homage to growing up in Huntington Beach, riding beach cruisers, surfing, skating, knockin’ ’em back at Hurricanes, having breakfast at Michelle’s Sugar Shack…you know…Orange County life. The track was debuted on opening day of the U.S. Open of Surf in the summer of 2011 and it seems appropriate to promote it every summer.
This promo is a test run to see how the shirts do. That said, there are limited quantities. There are three awesome styles though and if I am out of your size, please email me and let me know. Depending on how quickly these sell out, I will do another run to include additional sizes. Check out the Johnny Zapp store link up in the top menu bar of the site!
Welcome to the new site!! After first launching johnnyzapp.com in 2006, an overhaul was in order. Many things have changed since then such as my “retirement” from live performing, the growth of my music publishing business and the addition of magazine columnist to my resume in the fashion, art & culture and motorcycle/hot rod worlds.
What’s new for 2014? Well we are almost halfway through it but as of late, I have been sneaking out of hiding and performing some acoustic happy hour gigs with a couple buddies around Phoenix. Check back frequently as there will be more dates soon. I have also dusted off my vintage film cameras and been taking them on the road with me on my motorcycle travels, bringing back some fun black and white film shots (take a look at the Black and White Film Work link in the gallery.)
As if that weren’t enough, due to the overwhelming response to a three part editorial piece on lingerie I did for Delicious Dolls magazine, I started my own website (www.thechivalrouslife.com) all about lingerie & ladies fashion and well…chivalry. Be sure to check it out. All that said, you can see how it was time to revamp the website and build something that was all inclusive to everything happening in the world of Johnny Zapp; Rock ‘n Roll, Art & Fashion.
So please, poke around the site, listen to some music, check out the galleries (many photos from the vault!) and be sure to follow on Facebook!
